Infrastructural development of the Institute

The Kodály anniversary event in Kecskemét was organized at the Kodály Institute on 16 December.
Dr Andrea Vigh, rector of the Liszt Ferenc University of Music and Klaudia Szemerey-Pataki, mayor of the town, announced the launch of the Institute's infrastructural development and expansion project.  


Events in December

The month of December was full of musical events.
Students of the Institute gave concerts, and in open classes they demonstrated what they had learnt during the academic year.
On 1 and 2 December, the Institute Choir gave an advent concert in Kisjakabfalva.

The Kodály Summer School brings world-renowned master teachers and performing artists to the Kodály Institute of the Liszt Academy of Music, Kecskemét, Hungary for an unparalleled combination of summer music education and musical performances. 


The 2017-2018 academic year began

A record number of students from 18 different countries started their studies at the different courses of the Institute in Septempber: music theory BA, Kodály music pedagogy MA, and nondegree training courses.

New addition to the Archives of the Institute

Erzsébet Szőnyi – retired leading professor of the Liszt Academy, holder of the Kossuth Prize, the Erkel Prize, the Apáczai Csere János Prize and the Bartók-Pásztory Prize, composer and music pedagogue, Artist of the Nation – decided to donate her music collection to the Kodály Institute.

The FOUNDATION FOR THE KODÁLY INSTITUTE is pleased to announce the following scholarships for the 2017-2018 Academic Year and for the summer of 2017:



in honour of the 135th anniversary of Kodály’s birth
and the 50th anniversary of his death

the 29th International Kodály Seminar will be held
between 15 - 28 July 2017, in Kecskemét, Hungary

with the following specialisations:

I) Music Pedagogy
II) Creative Workshop - composition games
III) Choral Conducting
IV) Zenezen (piano course)
V) Vocal Masterclass for singers, choral singers and voice pedagogues



It is with great pleasure that we announce the result of several years of dedicated work on further developing our academic programmes at the Kodály Institute. A new two-year MA course in Kodály Music Pedagogy will replace the one-year programme established in 2007. This new graduate programme will commence in September 2017.

Erasmus+ funding for the creative revisiting of music education practice

Within the framework of an international strategic cooperation programme, with the Liszt Academy as the lead organisation, partner institutions from Budapest, the Netherlands and Scotland will collaborate to carry out methodological improvements in music education based on the principles of the Kodály method.
