Opening with farewell

The 2011/2012 academic year started with a farewell celebration for the faculty and staff of the Kodály Institute on the occasion of the retirement of Mrs. Sándor Kása and Roland Hajdu.

The 26th International Kodály Seminar and Kodály Art Festival has ended

The 26th International Kodály Seminar was closed with the concert of the choirs of the seminar participants and the professors of the Kodály Institute on the 30th July, 2011. The concert was broadcasted online.

The Kodály Art Festival which is organized alongside the International Kodály Seminars ended on the 31st July, 2011 with the concert of the Kecskemét Symphony Orchestra titled Concertino.

"[...] This year we had 165 participants from exactly 30 countries.
Close to 40 faculty members, including professors of the Kodály Institute and invited guest lecturers and master teachers from countries including Britain, Portugal, Ireland, Singapore and the US were in charge of the professional programme. This number is higher than the number of faculty members at any previous seminars.
During these past two weeks we did not only work together but almost literally lived together.  I started my days at 8:15 with staff meeting and ended late night after the artists of the evening concerts had retired to their hotel rooms.
The delegates did not only attend various courses but they had many important dialogues and discussions on music education.
Faculty and participants alike has brought forth their various opinions, sometimes contrasting ideas related to music education.

Based on these conversations I came to the conclusion that probably the greatest concern for  music education these days is the dealing with the cultural diversity around us and dealing with the definition of values in the age of value pluralism when several fundamentally diverse musical values which may be equally correct and fundamental, and yet in conflict with each otheris supported by our society. Paradoxically enough because of this we tend to be unable to define VALUE.
We might have not been able to challenge these concerns BUT we have a common message. We believe in the importance of music education and the spiritual enrichment through music education.[...]

Dear Participants,
I sincerely hope that you found it worth visiting the Kodály Institute which is the place, I believe, where one can study Kodály-based education in its most authentic way. We did our utmost to provide you with excellent opportunities for professional growth and learning. I hope that we succeeded, and you will return home inspired and enriched with many beautiful musical and pedagogical experiences. We hope that one day you will return to us."

(Excerpts from the closing speech of László Norbert Nemes, Director of the Kodály Institute)
